'I OWE MY DESTRUCTION TO HUMANITY!' by Ananya Tiwari

I OWE MY DESTRUCTION TO HUMANITY!

I owe my destruction to humanity!
I hatched from the cucoon yesterday
Flattered by all the attention,I smiled.
Humans started feeding me, I was overwhelmed.
They even christened me, Lucy!
A tot would come bawling my name when yelled at by his parents.
I shouldn't, but I blush over the thought of being precious to someone.
They built a home for me and a cradle inside in which I could swing and dream.
Today, as the son rose, I was jovial at the notion of being welcomed again.
But then I saw them threatening my grandmother to grant them more silk.
She was ailing, dying, yet she was doing her best!

I owe my destruction to humanity!
I slept and the dreams changed to nightmares and threats.
I woke up and saw my grandma struggle, she opened her wings wide, her wingspan mesmerized us and filled the eyes of demons with greed.
The pair could do anything, but fly.
Yet she ran,
through the branch and took a leap of faith, a leap of hope, a leap of freedom.
She tried to fly but couldn't , for little did she know her wings were crushed the day she was born!
I stared at her face, to see whether she'd have any regrets but all I saw was a tear of relief before she closed her eyes forever.

I owe my destruction to humanity!
Tonight I couldn't sleep,
I heard them whispering and giggling about us being sold.
But could someone please tell them that our freedom is not their's to hold?
We'll be moved to another golden cage and they wouldn't stop even if we cry!
And tomorrow and the day after,
Thousands like my grandma with a tear of relief in their eyes, will die!
